How to Record Voice Notes for LinkedIn (Desktop)
LinkedIn currently only lets you record and send voice messages from the mobile app.
You can still use voice notes in a desktop-first workflow, but you need a workaround.
The Quickest Workaround (Recommended)
Record on mobile, manage the convo on desktop.
- Open LinkedIn on your phone.
- Go to the DM thread.
- Tap the microphone icon.
- Press and hold to record.
- Release to send.
- If you want to cancel, swipe away before releasing.
Then hop back to desktop for everything else.
Desktop-Friendly Workaround if You Must Stay on Your Computer
If you are set on doing this from your computer, your realistic options are:
Option A: Record audio on desktop, then send it as a short video file
- LinkedIn desktop DMs support uploading videos.
- Many people record a quick “talking head” or even a static screen video with audio, then upload.
Option B: Record a Loom and send the link
- Record a 20 to 45 second Loom.
- Paste the link into the DM.
- Add a short text line so they know it is quick.
Best Practices for Voice Notes (so They Do Not Backfire)
Voice notes in LinkedIn DMs are polarizing. Some people love them, some prefer text. That is normal.
To maximize replies:
- Keep it under 1 minute (20 to 45 seconds is ideal)
- Get to the point fast
- Speak slowly and confidently
- Smile while talking (it changes the tone)
- Do not use canned or AI-generated audio
Simple voice note script you can reuse
Keep it tight:
- Anchor: “Saw your post about X”
- Observation: “Feels like Y is the hard part right now”
- Tiny offer: “Want me to send 2 examples?”
No meeting ask in the voice note.
